ALL CHURCH LENTEN study
"A Place at the Table: 40 Days of Solidarity with the Poor" by author Chris Seay
Starting Sunday, February 19, 2012
Our Lenten worship theme this year is Ready for Change: Finding New Direction, utilizing the worship resources from Marcia McFee and others as we reflect on God's call to Bow Mills in this time, and in this place.
The book and study will invite us on a journey of self-examination, discipline and renewed focus on Jesus that will transform lives and our spiritual journey. The author invites us to a certain kind of fast, an appropriate spiritual discipline in the season of Lent; the kind of fast where we intentionally eat like the poor...
For example:
- Choosing a country where poverty abounds and eat their staple foods: learn the history, traditions and culture
- Eat on a Food Stamp budget
- Learn about the "Culture of Consumption" in our own country
If one has dietary or other food restrictions, choose a different kind of fast from:
- Television
- Social Media
- News
- Non Life-Giving Habit
There are many ways to participate:
- Read the book and discuss with family, friends, neighbors
- Join our Sunday morning discussion groups (Feb 19-April 1)
- Participate in our online conversation
A companion DVD will be utilized during our Sunday discussion groups, but may be borrowed. Please speak with Pastor Virg to arrange this.
Each week during group discussion and in worship, we will hear about people and organizations that are making a change for the better in their place in the world! Come be inspired, challenged, and a part of our listening for God's call to our community.
